Spring 2018, I decided to take this course to learn more about technology and dance integration and to get a jump start on my MFA thesis project. Originally I started out by creating a Milwaukee Hip Hop dance Lecture Demonstration (which will happen in the future), but then it merged into my getting assistance on my already produced work.
Before I discuss this, I would like to talk about the coursework we had that got me to this point. In this class, we were guided by these terms.
We will engage and connect
We will seek out relevance and consider what’s at stake
We will make, read, watch, participate, lead, follow and explore
It was important that we build a creative community, for this is needed in artist land. We read Bell Hooks, All about Love, DERESIEWICZ, WILLIAM. 2015. The Death of the Artist—and the Birth of the Creative Entrepreneur: Hard-working artisan, solitary genius, credentialed professional—the image of the artist has changed radically over the centuries. What if the latest model to emerge means the end of art as we have known it?, and UIG DE LA BELLACASA, MARIA Matters of Care: Speculative Ethics in a More Than Human World. I’ve read these in previous classes of Norah Zuniga-Shaw.
Readings these again gave me clearer thoughts. I felt since I’ve came back from my trip to Senegal I’ve been trying to see if I can make it as a “solo Performing Artist.” WHILE EVERYONE AROUND ME SEE’S IT, IT MAKES ME ANXIOUS. SO ANXIOUS I ITCH.
We had to come up with a Daily Activities and share them weekly. I, Jazelynn, am not a journaler so this was hard. Also, I, Jazelynn, have a difficult time making a choice unless it’s impulse. So activities I wanted to do is the gym, eat healthy, sing, play with tech, start a blog, start a podcast, etc. I’ve maybe done some of these things and more. But never traced them. Also, several classmates have extended their hand to assist me, but this is also something that I am working on. I am great at helping others, by myself, LAWD IDK WHAT IT IS.
But in this class, I discovered my process. I tend to hate being in a studio alone. I procrastinate. Ideas come to me in the dead of the night or in my dreams, I hate writing, and articulating my thoughts is a practice I need.
I discussed this in my SpeakEasy at the end of the year in class.
What I do appreciate about my community is the Directors Hat. I gev my class mates these items to look at before class.
You will be playing directors hat tomorrow. I will have my piece written down and you can mix and match and wreck the whole thing.
